I've always loved songs with spoken lyrics. Some groups, like the Ink Spots did it on nearly every song. Usually the first two verses were sung as usual, with the third verse, or a part of it, spoken in an earnest, whistful voice.
The Shangri-Las took it to another level entirely. I Can Never Go Home Anymore is a tear jerker in an era of maudlin songs. The lyrics are almost entirely spoken. Produced by the legendary "Shadow" Morton, it's a classic of 60's teen angst.
