5 Bambole

In the pantheon of great soundtrack composers, Piero Umiliani isn't exactly a household name. His most well known song, Ma nah ma nah, was made famous by The Muppet Show. (Contrary to what you may have read, it was not written for a Swedish porn film. Sweden, Heaven or Hell is an Italian-made Mondo documentary about Sweden's seedy underbelly.)

Umiliani scored a series of sexploitation films like White Angel...Black Angel and gangster films like Vengeance Is a Dish Eaten Cold. These selections are from 5 Bambole Per La Luna d'Agosto (5 Dolls for the August Moon), a Mario Bava shocker from 1970. The music is a melange of slinky lounge, cocktail jazz, rock, creepy organs, and God knows what else. 5 Bambole, and other fine soundtracks, as well as Umiliani's synth/jazz experiments, are at eMusic.
