It's Square To Be Hip

We love easy listening versions of weirdo pop tunes. The best ones manage to retain the flavor of the original, while draining out essential qualities that made it interesting in the first place. Billy Vaughn's version of The Zombies' Time Of The Season fits the bill nicely.

Looking at the cover, you might think that the record would sound like space-age moog pop. You'd be wrong. Lite jazz spiced up with a vocal chorus and a mild jam session. Still, love the cover.

Voices In Latin's version of Donovan's Sunshine Superman (from their Something Cool LP) is more in the vein of Sergio Mendez' Brazilian renditions of Beatles tunes. (Our apologies for the surface noise at the beginning of the track. We here at Flipside try to bring you the cleanest recordings, but sometimes there's little we can do.)
