Garage Rock Classics: Little Latin Lupe Lu

More frat rock than garage, Little Latin Lupe Lu was none-the-less a staple of sixties DIY bands. Written by Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers, it's your basic "Lemme tell you 'bout my baby" number in the Gloria mode. Mitch Ryder had a hit with it, and it's been covered by The Box Tops, The Flowerz, and Sly & The Family Stone, to name a few. This post includes six selections. In a Flipside first, there are not one, but two all-female bands. The Heart Beats (above) were from Texas and recorded a few sides in the mid-60's. The Pebbles are a contemporary Japanese Groupsound trio. Rounding out the set are The Outcasts, surf band The Keymen, The Dennisons (from Liverpool), and Frat Rock icons, The Kingsmen.

All six versions are included in the downloadable zip file. If you unzip it, you'll see that they're all there.
