Stomp Your Hands, Clap Your Feet!

I've been on a glam jag of late. Bowie, T Rex, Mott the Hoople, and the lesser known Jobriath and Cockney Rebel. One band that never quite made in the the US was Slade. Slade was the most over-the-top glam bands of the age. They were glam2.

Lead singer Noddy Holder wore mirrored top hats. Guitarist Dave Hill dressed like a spaceman. The whole band sported 18 inch platforms. They wrote songs with blatant misspellings ("Coz I Luv You," "Skweeze Me Pleeze Me"). One could make a case for them being the inspiration for "Spinal Tap." They were the finest band to come out of Wolverhampton.

Most people know them through Quiet Riot's cover of "Cum on Feel the Noize." It's too bad, because they had so many more great songs. Here are three: the rave up "Get Down And Get With It," teen queen rocker "Gudbye T'Jane," and the classic "Mama Weer All Crazee Now."
