It's Ed Wood's Birthday

Today would have been Ed Wood's 84th birthday. Let's get a few things straight: Ed was not the worst director of all time (there are far worse big-budget directors in H'wood today). Nor was "Plan 9 From Outer Space" the worst film ever made (ever seen "Staying Alive"?) Ed was a creative (and yes, talented) filmmaker and writer who used what he had to get his films shot. Ed never got to enjoy his films' revival nor the cult that has been built around him.

In honor of Ed's birthday, you should put on an angora sweater, drink a bottle of vodka, and watch one of the master's great works. My recommendation is one of the films he wrote but didn't direct. "Orgy Of The Dead" and "The Violent Years." (aka "Teenage Girl Gang") are my top choices.

Oh, wow I did not know that. Today was also the day Orson Welles passed so that'd be the worst and the greatest on the same day then...
