One Hit Wonders Hall of Fame: Tony Burrows

Tony Burrows was a One Hit Wonder who had five hits. Confused? One of the categories of OHWs is the fake-group-thrown-together-to-make-quick-records. Burrows was a bandleader and singer who routinely used the same musicians in various combinations under different names. He appeared with three of these "bands" on a single episode of "Top of the Pops."

Four of these songs (Edison Lighthouse's Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes), White Plains' My Baby Loves Lovin', the Pipkins' Gimme Dat Ding, and the Brotherhood of Man's United We Stand) simultaneously made the British top ten in 1970. They all charted high in the US as well. In addition, he scored a hit under the name The First Class with the Beach Boys knockoff Beach Baby.

Burrows (at the top of the photo with the Brotherhood of Man) continues to record and perform today.
